Open Census 2010

Open Census 2010 is a free service built on the Open Intel project on CodePlex. It is a MapDotNet UX 8 solution hosted in Azure and uses SQL Azure to hold the 2010 Census data. States, counties, tracts, and block groups for the entire US are up in the cloud with the recently released population and housing demographics.

OpenLayers is a pure JavaScript library for displaying map data in most modern web browsers, with no server-side dependencies. OpenLayers implements a (still-developing) JavaScript API for building rich web-based geographic applications, similar to the Google Maps and MSN Virtual Earth APIs, with one important difference -- OpenLayers is Free Software, developed for and by the Open Source software community.

In this case, tiles from a third-party data provider are seamlessly integrated with Microsoft Bing Maps tiles. MapDotNet UX users can also establish tile repositories to improve rendering performance of their own data.
